Got a question? Ask Patricia!
November 11, 2009 -- Dave

Question:
Is the healthcare bill that just passed the House something that can be repealed next session? If so, will you work toward that end?

Thank you.

Dave

Patricia's Answer:
Dear Dave,

First of all, the health care bill passed by the House of Representatives still has a ways to go before it becomes law. The Senate will have it's version, which it may or may not pass. If it does pass, then its version and the House version will have to be reconciled and voted on again by both houses of Congress, That's why we need to remain vigilant in contacting Senators, particularly those in other states since both Sam Brownback and Pat Roberts are opposed to government health care.

That being said, should a bill similar to what the House passed make it through both chambers and then be signed by the President, yes, it could be repealed next session. However, remember, any bill to repeal what is essentially a massive government program will be difficult once it is enacted -- and second of all -- any "repeal bill" that would be passed would be vetoed by the President, and we would need 2/3 of both the House and the Senate to override it.

For that reason, it is extremely important that we do our part and win here in the 3rd District. Of course, if elected, I would work to ensure health care freedom is protected and that we instead propose free market solutions to the problems in our health care system.

In the meantime, we must continue to put the pressure on every Senator and member of Congress, as we will have several cracks at different versions of this bill before it becomes law.

Thanks so much for your question!

Patricia
