Lightner Pledges to Repeal ObamaCare
Favors Free-Market Solutions to Empower Americans
OLATHE, Kan. - Patricia Lightner, Republican candidate for Congress in the 3rd District of Kansas, has pledged to sponsor and support legislation to repeal any federal health care takeover passed in 2010, and replace it with real reforms that lower health care costs without growing government.
The Repeal It! Pledge was sponsored by The Club for Growth, a fiscally conservative organization. Lightner is the first candidate in the 3rd District to have signed the pledge.
"ObamaCare is not about health care reform - it is about government control. Choices regarding health care should be left up to individual Americans and not influenced by government mandates and bureaucratic considerations," Lightner said. "If Congress ignores the people and chooses to pass ObamaCare, one of my first acts upon being elected to Congress will be to sponsor legislation to repeal it."
Lightner said signing the pledge is a simple reflection of stances she has consistently taken since entering the race.
"By signing this pledge, I am following up on my firm commitment I have made throughout my campaign -- to not only repeal any government health care takeover, but enact real free-market reforms that will drive down costs while increasing competition and improving access," Lightner said.
Signing the Repeal It! Pledge is the latest in a number of statements Lightner has made regarding health care:
In October, Lightner issued a statement sharply criticizing a Senate committee vote in favor of ObamaCare, saying, "The bill takes the nation down the road of government control of health care decisions, including mandates not only on health insurers, but on individuals as well."
In November, Lightner aggressively opposed the Pelosi Health Care Bill, HR 3962. At the time, she said "HR 3962 is not about health care reform, it is about government control and crippling private insurance. It is socialized medicine, period."
Also in November, Lightner announced her support the House Republicans alternative health care plan, which she said offers common sense reforms such as "ending junk lawsuits through tort reform, enhancing medical savings accounts, permitting small businesses to pool together to purchase health insurance, allowing the purchase of health care across state lines, and expanding and improving high-risk access pools so all Americans can obtain affordable health insurance."
Finally, also in November, Lightner also announced her support for the Kansas Health Care Freedom Amendment, which will constitutionally preserve the right and freedom of Kansans to provide for their health care. The Amendment is sponsored by Senator Mary Pilcher Cook, who has endorsed Patricia Lightner's candidacy for Congress.
